Mastering Mascara: Tips for Fuller, Longer-Looking Lashes

Mascara is one of the most powerful tools in any makeup bag. A single coat can open up the eyes, add drama, and transform your entire face in seconds. At Fleur & Blush, here's how to get the most out of every application.

Choose the Right Formula

Volumising mascaras add fullness and thickness to lashes. Lengthening formulas extend and define each lash. Curling mascaras lift and hold a curl. For the most dramatic effect, layer a lengthening coat first, then a volumising coat on top.

Curl Before You Coat

Always curl your lashes before applying mascara, never after. Clamp your lash curler at the base of the lashes, hold for 10 seconds, then pulse toward the tips for a natural, lifted curl that mascara will lock in beautifully.

The Wiggle Technique

Place the mascara wand at the base of your lashes and wiggle it from side to side as you slowly draw it upward to the tips. This deposits maximum product at the root for a fuller, more defined look.

Build Without Clumping

Apply the first coat and let it dry for 30 seconds before applying a second. This prevents clumping and ensures each layer builds cleanly. Use a clean spoolie to comb through lashes between coats if needed.

Don't Forget the Lower Lashes

Lower lashes, when coated lightly, open up the eye and add balance to your look. Use the tip of the wand for precision and apply just one coat to keep it subtle.

Remove Gently

Always remove mascara with a gentle, oil-based makeup remover. Rubbing or tugging can cause lash breakage over time. Soak a cotton pad, press it over closed eyes for a few seconds, then wipe gently downward.
